Marea and Rendt Gorter work as a husband and wife team for not-for-profit and public organisations to help get projects over the line. Drawing on a rich set of skills and experience, we can provide a complementary set of services to get your project ideas focused, resourced, actioned and completed to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Rendt Gorter has over the past 25 years worked as a project manager and consultant in New Zealand and overseas, gaining valuable experience and skills in project management, social development and applied research for community mobilisation and engagement. Working in diverse roles, Rendt specialised in identifying opportunities, designing projects, obtaining funding and managing change programmes. In between, Rendt earned a PhD for studying environmental democracy around participation in resource management in Fiji and New Zealand.
Currently, Rendt facilitates the Ecology Vision process on Great Barrier Island on contract to Auckland Council, he is on the team for the development of an innovative visitor interpretation project of the Local Board, and he is also employed part-time by the Aotea Family Support Group as Funding Coordinator along with responsibilities for communications.
Marea Gorter is an educator with a background in marine science education holding a MSc (hons) in marine biology with qualifications in teaching and business. Marea has taught in high schools, universities, private education institutions and aquariums, teaching all levels from pre-schoolers to adults. She also started her own tutoring business in Nelson and more recently was manager of the Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre (University of Auckland) where she managed staff, volunteers, stock, marketing and financial reporting; developed interactive displays and developed and delivered teaching programmes.
Currently, Marea is contracted as coordinator for the Great Barrier Island Environmental Trust, the Sea Education Aotea Trust as well as being an external assessor for the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology.
